Bloomberg Indonesia Stocks: Adaro Energy, Bakrie & Brothers, Bukit Asam

Indonesia’s Jakarta Composite index rose 32.54 points, or 0.9 percent, to 3,760.06 as of the 4 p.m. local-time close, gaining for a sixth day.

Coal producers: PT Bumi Resources (BUMI IJ), Indonesia’s biggest coal producer, added 4 percent to 3,250 rupiah, the highest close since Sept. 25, 2009. PT Adaro Energy (ADRO IJ), the second largest, jumped 7.5 percent to 2,875 rupiah, closing at a record. The shares rose as crude oil traded near a 27-month high at $91.63 a barrel in after-hours trading in New York. Demand for alternative fuels such as coal may rise as oil stays high, Michael Handisurya, an analyst at Jakarta-based PT Valbury Asia Securities, said.

PT Astra Agro Lestari (AALI IJ), Indonesia’s biggest listed plantation company, fell 1.3 percent to 26,450 rupiah. Palm oil futures declined as much as 1.2 percent to 3,806 ringgit ($1,242) a metric ton in Kuala Lumpur before trading at 3,857 ringgit a ton. Astra Agro plants only oil palm trees.

PT Bakrie & Brothers (BNBR IJ), an investment company, rose 2.9 percent to 72 rupiah, the highest close since Dec. 9. Bakrie settled 2.25 trillion rupiah ($250 million) of debt last month to creditors including Brentwood Ventures Pte Ltd, the company said in a statement to the stock exchange.

PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PTBA IJ), the state-run coal producer, rose 4 percent to 24,900 rupiah, a record close. Bukit Asam is seeking a $272 million bank loan to increase its stake in PT Bukit Asam Transpacific Railway to 30 percent from 10 percent, Bisnis Indonesia reported, citing President Director Sukrisno. Corporate Secretary Achmad Sudarto couldn’t be reached when called at his office.

PT United Tractors (UNTR IJ), Indonesia’s biggest heavy equipment seller, climbed 3.9 percent to 25,250 rupiah. The company expects sales this year to rise to 6,000 units from last year’s target of 5,400 units, bolstered by demand from mining and plantation companies, Investor Daily Indonesia reported, citing Ari Setiyawan, an investor relations officer. Calls to the company’s office in Jakarta weren’t answered.
