Bank Central Asia - Shielded from deposit war - Kim Eng

- BCA cut its savings deposit rate by 40bp to 2.6% in 2Q11. This brings its already-low CoF further down to 2.7%. On top of that, the bank also managed to lift its low-cost deposit portion to 77% and grow the total deposit book by 2.9% YTD to Rp285.7t. BCA has managed to accomplish these feats, while several banks have been struggling to raise third-party funds, which has forced them to lift their time deposit rate to the maximum limit of 7.25%.

- Loan book rose to Rp159.7t in 1H11, implying a YTD expansion of 3.8%. LDR inched higher to 56% in 1H11, thus reducing the additional reserve requirement for BCA. Overall, we saw a q/q increase of 20bp in NIM to 5.6%. At 0.7%, BCA’s NPL remains one of the lowest in the sector.
