Latest on Toyota production (Astra International) - Nomura

Toyota will restart its Japanese vehicle-production facilities from 18 April at 50% capacity utilization and will reassess again after annual spring holiday that ended 9 May. Toyota has started its production for off shores component parts for overseas production on 21 March and production of replacement parts on 17 March.

In the mean time Toyota will halt production in North America plants for a total of five days on April 15, 18, 21*, 22, and 25. (See press release by Toyota below).

We continue to believe that the disruption in parts supply in Indonesia will be short term in nature and are unlikely to result in permanent lost of neither market share nor dilution of brand equity. The most important factor is that demand remains strong and there is enough time for production to catch up in 2H11 to meet our full year assumption of 10% volume growth. Car producers in Indonesia (including Toyota) will have enough parts in April 2011 and any production disruption is likely to appear in May 2011. We retain our BUY recommendation on Astra International (ASII IJ).

Toyota's North American Production (Apr. 09, 2011)
Due to parts supply difficulties following the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake in Japan, Toyota plans the following adjustments to its North American production. Production at North American vehicle-production plants is to be halted on April 15, 18, 21*, 22 and 25. Production at virtually all North American engine and parts plants is also to be halted on the same dates. No decisions have yet been made regarding production after April 25.

Japan Earthquake and Production (April 8, 2011)
As Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) continues to address its production situation in Japan following the March 11 Great East Japan Earthquake, it has decided it will produce vehicles at all its Japanese vehicle-production facilities from April 18 to April 27. Production volume is planned to be approximately 50 percent of normal. Afterward, all production facilities will enter their annual spring holiday through May 9. A decision on post-holiday production will be made after assessing the parts supply situation. This development follows production resumed on March 28 at TMC’s Tsutsumi Plant in Aichi Prefecture and at Toyota Motor Kyushu, Inc. in Fukuoka Prefecture, as well as a planned production restart on April 11 at Central Motor Co., Ltd.’s Sagamihara Plant in Kanagawa Prefecture.
