Food prices lifted January inflation to 0.89% and year-on-year to 7.02%, Central Bureau of Statistics announced today.
The January 2011 inflation is slightly higher than January 2010 at 0.82%, lifted mainly by increasing prices of food materials.
The year-on-year 7.02% is higher than estimates of around 6.9%.
News about inflation affects the mood in stock market. The composite index of Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) surged over 1% in the opening hour, but then retreats to 0.4% before bouncing back to 0.72% in the last trading hour of morning session.
Banking stocks are mixed, with BNI, Danamon, and BRI decline 1.55%, 1.68%, and 0.52%, while Mandiri gains 1.68%. BCA is unchanged.
