Through this agreement, all Esia phones will feature Bitstream’s BOLT™ mobile browser, enabling customers to easily browse the Web and enjoy features typically associated with advanced browsers on personal computers. Bitstream’s BOLT mobile browser is the most fully-featured Web browser designed for all categories of mobile phones.
“This agreement is another phenomenal step for Bakrie Telecom to expand the public’s access to the Internet,” said Erik Meijer, PT Bakrie Telecom deputy president director. “For the first time, Internet access can be done not only through smartphones but can also be enjoyed by phones in the mid-low end category.”
According to Meijer, the needs and interest of the community to enjoy Internet access is rising. Results of the TNS Global Market Research in eight cities in Indonesia indicated a surge of Internet users via cell phones from 22 percent in 2009 to 48 percent in 2010. By partnering with Bitstream, Bakrie Telecom stands a great chance to capture the potential of this growing market.
“Bakrie Telecom, through its product Esia, not only consistently proves its efforts to expand access for the public to telecommunications services, but also opens access for the public to the Internet and knowledge,” added Meijer.
In addition to deploying Internet access for every type of Esia phone, another advantage created by this agreement is flexibility in bill payment service. Subscriber based charging by Bitstream enables Esia customers to select various unlimited service packages depending on their needs: daily, weekly or monthly.
“This disruptive innovation further strengthens our position as an operator that always follows the growth of new technology and is in line with the interests of our customers,” added Meijer.
Meijer added that BOLT is known as an excellent mobile Web browser. BOLT is fast, reliable and provides good support for many of the latest Web technologies such as HTML 5 video and Flash. This capability enables users to enjoy streaming video on sites such as You Tube, MTV and others.
“It should be noted that Bakrie Telecom not only has Esia as its product, but also AHA, a high-speed Internet access service. With EVDO phones such as the Nokia 6316 and Samsung Corby, which we recently introduced, AHA customers will enjoy a much more fun and exciting experience when surfing in cyberspace ,” Meijer explained.
The BOLT cloud computing architecture delivers significant benefits to Bakrie subscribers, even those using entry level phones. The data compression employed by BOLT loads Web pages significantly faster than traditional mobile browsers, and BOLT’s WebKit based rendering displays Web pages on a mobile phone just as they would appear on a personal computer (PC).
